Describing The Atmosphere

Describing The Atmosphere

Describing the Atmosphere

Working with humans you've never met can be scary and it's one of the biggest reasons people who would be a brilliant fit either never apply or don't turn up to interviews. Together we can break this barrier down and share what it's really like to work there.

For a bit of inspiration this is how our some of our other partners have described their atmosphere.

Example 1

We have a fun and friendly office environment, where working together is at the heart of everything we do.

Example 2

At times, our environment is really fast-paced and full of energy particularly during the back to school period (our Christmas!). Other times it's very relaxed and chilled out. However, it's always fun and people treat each other with respect and honesty. We're big on creating an environment where people feel free to question; have their own voice (and not be afraid to use it) and to create a culture where you want to come to work, not because you have to but because you want to. We're inclusive, collaborative and encourage people to develop themselves and grow.

Example 3

We are all ambitious individuals that constantly challenge ourselves to improve. We invest in our skills so we can add value, whatever our role, enabling to support each other and our clients alike. It also results in us using smart tools, technology and processes to drive performance at pace. Whether directly or indirectly every member of our team has a role to play in delivering value to our customers. It’s important we embrace the unique personalities of our colleagues and our clients, and we lead by example. We don’t hide mistakes or point the finger of blame, ever.

Example 4

We don't just accept the status quo, we focus on giving our clients a great experience and offering them something different. We believe we can enjoy our work and be successful at the same time, and are passionate about learning, sharing information and knowledge together as a team.

Example 5

We're a small, efficient, friendly and incredibly dedicated team that take pride in the work we do that helps our clients succeed and grow. They're blown away by what we can help them achieve and we want you to be part of their successful journey too.

We've got nice tidy clean offices and good working conditions. We work hard but we also know how to have fun... everyone always comments on what a nice friendly atmosphere it is.... oh, and on those occasional days when things do get a bit stressed.... there's always chocolate to be found in the fridge!

Top Tip: If all else fails just confirm you're a bunch of loveable weirdos

Lots of love

The Working Environment

The Working Environment

The Working Environment

The easier it is for the right people to be able to visualise themselves working in your team the more of them will apply for the job and attend the interviews, which makes you much more likely to find the right people to join your team.

Here's how some of our partners describe their physical working environment, can you better their efforts?

Example 1

We are based in a bright modern office 2 minute’s walk from Harrow on the Hill Tube Station and Bus Station. It is easy to get to and is a stone’s throw from a shopping centre with lots of places to eat.

Example 2

We are a team of 70 people based in a recently refurbished open plan office where you will come into contact with everyone across the business. Our offices are based on the outskirts of Norwich, with excellent transport links and facilities. We have plenty of parking on-site and are close to other major businesses in the area.

Example 3

You will be working in our open office on Rotterdam Road in Hull alongside the rest of the team and the office dog Tia. By working closely together, it means you will never be too far away to speak with the technical specialists in the team and get the right information that our clients need.

Example 4

Our London team is 6 strong, with another 5 Contractors and Introducers who also work on projects with you. The wider team is made up of over 32 employees across 5 sites currently, with new satellite offices planned in the North of England too.

Lots of love

Values & Behaviours

Values & Behaviours

The Right Values & Behaviours For Your Team

"Hey man, we're going to talk about Values, gather round this camp fire while we hold hands, Phoenix strikes up the acoustic guitar and we explore each other's auras".

Don't worry were actually going to be very pragmatic about how we use them together. The values people hold make up their world view or what they think is the right thing to do. These can be wildly different from person to person. If you've ever had a conversation with someone and then have been massively surprised by how they interpreted what you said and how they then acted then they likely have very different Values to you.

Getting you people who share your team's values means that there will be far fewer nasty surprises and miscommunications along the journey with them and they will instinctively understand how to behave in many different situations. Often described at "they just get it".

Example 1

  • Forward-thinking - You strive to prevent a problem before it becomes an issue that needs solving
  • Honesty - Be true to yourself, your team and your customers

Example 3

We are proud of the culture we have built here, if this sounds like we are describing you then there is a good chance you will love working in our team.

  • Achievement - You are focused on delivering specific outcomes

Example 4

If you can relate to these values you will fit right into our team.

Do They Have The Ability?

Do They Have The Ability?

Do They Have The Ability To Succeed In The Role?

You've now broken down the key reason they are joining your team (the challenge they are here to help you overcome), what success in the role looks like and how they need to behave to achieve success in this role. Now we can set questions all applicants will need to answer to apply to see if they have the aptitude for the role.

What questions can we ask to see if they understand how to be successful in the role?

This is the area where you can ask technical (potentially nerdy!) questions if appropriate to see if they know their stuff.

Here are some examples to help give you a flavour for what you might ask if you don't have a clear idea just yet.

Examples

  • What do you believe is the most important characteristic in a [insert job title] and why?
  • Having read this role, what do you believe you need to do to be successful in it?
  • Are you a qualified Accountant?
  • Please us about a time a project you were working on was under performing and what you did to resolve it.
  • This role requires international travel, is this something you are happy to commit to?
  • What elements do you believe need to be present in a great Service Level Agreement?
  • Share an experience in which you had success in retaining a disgruntled customer
  • Please provide an example where you came up with a new idea which involved thinking creatively in order to solve the problem
  • Why do you believe you are a good candidate for this role?
  • Do you enjoy writing lengthy, complex reports? What do you like about them?
  • What do you believe to be your biggest strength that will make you a good fit for this role?
  • Imagine if you are asked to find a way to reduce a specific cost. Where would you start and how would you make a decision?
  • What professional qualifications do you have that would be beneficial to this role?
  • What would you do if you had to present a report to a non-financial audience?
  • What information would you consider to produce forecasts?
  • Can you tell us about a time you dealt with a difficult person and managed to solve their problem?
  • What do you think makes a good communicator?
  • What do you consider to be an acceptable time to respond to an enquiry?
  • Do you have at least a competent knowledge of the HTML programming language?
  • Can you demonstrate a proven track record of digital marketing?
  • Please give an example of a good piece of analysis you completed that lead to a positive business change.
  • What pitfalls do you think any Project Manager needs to be aware of?
  • What project management methodologies have you worked with? Are you qualified in any of these?

We are going to cover their attitude, values and behaviour next, so for now focus on any role specific questions that will help you choose who you will and won't spend time interviewing.

Lots of love

What They Will Be Doing

What They Will Be Doing

Here is what they will actually be doing.

  • Writing and collating technical reports in a cohesive and comprehensive manner to enable the client to maximise their claim
  • Collaboration with other members of the team to meet deadlines for this work, and request further information when necessary from the client.

  • Proactively communicating with clients to keep them updated on where each job is at
  • Reporting sales numbers from your accounts to the key stakeholders in the business
  • Developing new business opportunities with our existing clients

In order to do this effectively, you will need to invest the time in building relationships with each of our clients so you can understand both them as people and their challenges so you can help solve them.

Example 4

Now over to you to share how they need to behave to succeed in the role.

TOP TIP: Keep it simple and resist the temptation to add in other things that are nice for them to do but aren't linked to how you defined success in the role.

Why Are They Coming In?

Why Are They Coming In?

Why Are They Coming In?

It's crucial to establish from the very beginning why you are bringing another human or group of humans on to your team.

What main challenge are they here to help you overcome?

You need to make sure that everything you do throughout your recruitment process is focused on understanding which of the people applying will help you overcome this challenge.

Here are some examples from our other partners to help inspire you:

  • Account Manager Role - You're in the team to build and maintain relationships with our clients to ensure we are giving them the best service that we can and to ensure they remain working with us.
  • Customer Service Manager - Leading a team of customer service advisors to confidently address customer issues with service, delivery and condition of products to both retailers and consumers.
  • Block Manager - Your role in our team is to ensure you and the Service Managers in your team deliver efficient and accurate support for those customers you look after so we can keep our promise of a better kind of property management service.
  • Management Accountant - Your role is to provide accurate and timely management accountant information to stakeholders across the business. In particular, you will act as a business partner for the Operations Team, providing financial insight and analysis.
  • Telesales Role - Your job is to speak to people that you don't know and find out what challenges they face with their communications and then suggest a solution from our menu of services that will meet their needs.
  • Business Development Manager - Your role is to increase the number of Accountants that join our community within the Midlands and surrounding so they can benefit from our excellent services.

Once you have set what the main challenge is that needs to be overcome, together we can then align your whole recruitment process to achieve exactly that.

Lots of love
